Wancha Chardonnay: A Sustainable California Chardonnay with an Ethiopian Soul

Overview

If you’re seeking a Chardonnay that breaks the mold, look no further than Wancha. This isn’t your typical buttery and oaked California Chardonnay; it’s a bright, lively, and refreshingly different expression of this classic grape.

Sustainably Sourced, Expertly Crafted: Our 2017 Wancha Chardonnay is made with grapes from Bartolucci Vineyards in Lake County, a California Certified Sustainable Vineyard committed to environmentally friendly practices.

An Ethiopian Inspiration: “Wancha” (ዋንጫ) means “horn cup” and “winner’s trophy” in Amharic, the language of Ethiopia. Horn cups are ancient drinking vessels, predating even the Viking tradition of drinking mead from horns, and are still used in modern Ethiopia for serving non-t’ej drinks. The background of our label features a close-up photo of a horn, connecting this wine to a rich history of celebration and ritual.
